The 48th Summer Film School Uherské Hradiště is honoured to welcome Jim Sheridan, one of the most renowned Irish filmmakers and playwrights and a holder of five Oscar nominations. Jim Sheridan will be awarded the AČFK Annual Prize.
Jim Sheridan, an author of iconic films My Left Foot, The Boxer, In America or Brothers, will be awarded the AČFK Annual Prize. He will also deliver his masterclass and expert introductions to his famous movies. Summer Film School will present four Sheridan’s feature films including his breath-taking debut My Left Foot which kicked off his stellar career and became a starting point for Daniel Day-Lewis, whose role of a young disabled man won him his first Oscar. Sheridan’s cold dramas dealing with the I.R.A. conflicts, In the Name of the Father and The Boxer, and his melodrama The Secret Scripture starring Rooney Mara, Eric Bana and Vanessa Redgrave will also be screened.
“Jim Sheridan is one of the most significant European filmmakers of the last decades. His films collected 16 nominations for the Academy Award and 12 nominations for the Golden Globes. Despite his global recognition, Sheridan remains to be an Irish director in the first place, since he is deeply connected with his country and its history. He is one of most important SFS guests of the last 15 editions,” said SFS programme director Jan Jílek.
